World of Sand by MarselvanOosten

I have mixed feelings every time I look at this image. On the one hand it reminds me of one of the most amazing expeditions I have ever done in the Sahara of Northern Africa, and of the wonderful people I’ve met in Libya – because that’s where this was shot.

At the same time, it saddens me that the so called Arabic Spring has actually turned into an Arabic Nightmare, and that our friends had to flee from their homes and have to fear for their lives.

Libya is at the top of my list of countries that I would love to return to, and as soon as it’s safe again to do so, I’ll be on the first plane.

We’ve been able to contact our crew in Libya, and luckily they’re all still alive, but their lives are completely turned upside down. I can only hope that this nightmare will stop soon and that people will live together in peace again.

This image was shot in a remote corner of the Sahara in Libya. I had scouted this location earlier was immediately fascinated by the patterns in the foreground. I decided to return when there would be more wind, and then I shot this around sunset.
