Los Gigantes Buttes in NE Arizona rise 700′ in tandem from the desert floor, far from any other sandstone monoliths. These twin buttes caught my eye many, many years ago, but I was always photographically challenged by the surrounding desert, which has been severely overgrazed by sheep, goats & feral horses, making it quite unattractive. Then one day I came across a vast sand dune field, which was created by the aforementioned overgrazing. Problem solved. ツ
It took several visits until the monsoonal skies finally cooperated. The wind blown sands lit by the setting sun were the cherry on the cake.
