A portrait introducing Scarlet, the newest addition to my In Bloom series.

I’ve been mulling for the past few months about what this project means to me, what am I trying to express and what direction would I like it to go in. Until now I feel as though I’ve let it flow, a dream of fairytales and flowers. I’d only just begun to contemplate the addition of a new character, perhaps a younger self, an older evolution, or even a child… and that’s when I met Scarlet. A sign if I ever saw one.

Since this shoot I’ve been feeling so inspired that I can barely sleep. Ideas for new pictures jotted on various papers spilling across my desk. It’s an exciting time!

We live more than one life in our time, the one we create physically in the world and the others in our mind. Who else finds this true too? I’m always lost in dreams and possibilities. Every time I read a book or watch a movie I’m in another world. For me photography is the medium that binds so many worlds together for a moment, one filled with memories and magic. It makes the unreal, real and I suppose that’s why I love to create the pictures I do. They are pieces of the dreams I’ve dreamt and the life I’m living.

I created this at a workshop I held at Amersham Studios earlier this year. It was a beautiful day and I had a great time meeting fellow creatives!
