View from the window of my summer apartment in Benidorm. Framing was limited on both sides by two nearby large buildings, so I had to use the maximum focal of my zoom lens to further compress the urban perspective, as well as also achieve a decent but very conditioned and forced framing.
It was a sort of exercise in the form of personal challenge, proposing myself achieving a trilogy of photographs from the window of the apartment with my 70-200 zoom lens. The first was the facade of the Hotel Mont Park that you can see in my gallery, second is this; third will follow soon 😉

Vista desde la ventana de los míos veraniegos aposentos en Benidorm. El encuadre se hallaba limitado por ambos lados por sendos magnos edificios cercanos, por lo que hube de utilizar la máxima focal de mi teleobjetivo para, además de comprimir la urbana perspectiva, lograr también un decente, pero muy condicionado, encuadre.
Fue una especie de ejercicio en forma de desafío personal, al proponerme lograr una trilogía de fotografías desde la ventana del apartamento con el teleobjetivo 70-200. La primera fue la fachada del Hotel Mont Park que podéis ver en mi galería, la segunda es ésta y, la tercera, no tardará en ser mostrada 😉

Vista desde la ventana de los míos veraniegos aposentos en Benidorm. El encuadre se hallaba limitado por ambos lados por sendos magnos edificios cercanos, por lo que hube de utilizar la máxima focal de mi teleobjetivo para, además de comprimir la urbana perspectiva, lograr también un decente, pero muy condicionado, encuadre.
Fue una especie de ejercicio en forma de desafío personal, al proponerme lograr una trilogía de fotografías desde la ventana del apartamento con el teleobjetivo 70-200. La primera fue la fachada del Hotel Mont Park que podéis ver en mi galería, la segunda es ésta y, la tercera, no tardará en ser mostrada 😉

A view of Benidorm’s Levante beach at dusk, from the top of the building Tropic Mar in the Rincon de Loix.
Levante Beach and its lit esplanade highlight in the image. In the background, on the right, we can see the magical and legendary “Puig Campana” mountain, which with its 1406 meters high, is the second highest peak, after “Aitana”, in the province of Alicante. Its characteristic square dent, known as “Roldán Cut””, has motivated many picturesque legends about its origin, connecting the island of Benidorm with the square notch of the mountain, establishing therein its origin.
The most popular versions of these legends tell that Roldán (the famous “Roland” of the French epic poem known as “Chanson de Roland”), sent by his uncle Charlemagne in command of an expedition to fight the Muslims (early IX century), fought in single combat with a muslim leader on the top of the mountain. The muslim leader fell down in the course of the fight, and Roldán was ready to kill him with a tremendous blow of his sword Durandal, but the Muslim deftly dodged it. Roldán gave such sword thrust on the rock that cut a large piece of rock, which rolled down the mountain into the sea, becoming the island of Benidorm.
In another different version of the legend, Roldán was in love with a beautiful local girl, but she was seriously ill, nearly moribund. The hero sought the help of a magician who lived in the mountains, but he did not give any hope to Roldán and announced that the beautiful girl would inevitably die with the last ray of sun of that day, so our hero, in his fury at such fatal prediction, tried desperately to avoid such tragic fate making a monumental cut on the mountain to retard the arrival of sunset.
There are many different versions and variants of this legend.
Unfortunately for the most enthusiastic about legendary evocations, the reality of the geological data and studies, deny any relationship between Benidorm islet and the Puig Campana gap :'(.
…but we must not forget that in every legend, there is an authentic historical background ;-).

La Playa de Levante y el suyo iluminado paseo marítimo, formado por las Avenidas de Madrid y Alcoy, destacan en la imagen. Al fondo, a la derecha, pueden vuesas mercedes contemplar el mágico y legendario “Puig Campana” que con los suyos 1406 metros de altura, es la segunda cumbre, tras el Aitana, más alta de la provincia de Alicante. La suya característica mella, conocida con, entre otros, el nombre del “Tall de Roldán” (“Corte de Roldán”), dado lugar ha a numerosas y pintorescas leyendas acerca del suyo origen; muchas dellas relacionan al solitario islote de Benidorm con esa enigmática entalladura de la montaña, estableciendo en ella su origen.
Las más conocidas versiones de esas leyendas cuentan que Roldán (el famoso “Roland” del épico medieval cantar de gesta francés conocido como “Chanson de Roland”), enviado por su tío Carlomagno al mando de una expedición para combatir a los musulmanes (hablamos de principios del siglo IX), entró en singular combate con un caudillo agareno y, absortos en el fragor de tamaño duelo, acabaron batiéndose en lo más alto de la montaña. Al caer el musulmán al suelo en un lance de la lucha, Roldán se aprestó a darle fin con un tremendo golpe de la suya espada Durandal, mas el musulmán fízose hábilmente a un lado esquivándolo. Tal fue la fuerza con la que Roldán asestó el golpe con el suyo fierro, que cortó un magno trozo de roca, el cual rodó montaña abajo hasta el mar, convirtiéndose de aqueste modo en la isla de Benidorm.
Otra versión de la leyenda cuenta que Roldán cayó enamorado de una bella damisela del lugar, y hallábase aquesta moribunda. Roldán recabó el auxilio de un mago que habitaba en la montaña, quien, viendo inútiles los suyos sortilegios, pócimas y ungüentos, no le dio esperanza alguna y anunciole que la bella muchacha moriría irremediablemente con la extinción del último rayo de sol de ese día, lo que el héroe, en la suya desesperada furia ante tan fatal sino, trato de impedir faciendo el monumental tajo en la montaña a fin de retardar la llegada del ocaso.
Hay numerosas versiones y variantes más de aquesta bella y épica leyenda.
Lamentablemente para los más dados a legendarias evocaciones, la realidad de los datos que han arrojado los estudios geológicos, desmienten cualquier relación del islote de Benidorm con la brecha del Puig Campana 😥 .
Pero, no hay que olvidar que, en toda leyenda, yace un fondo de historia ;).
