Moonlight Lava Exploring by tomkualii

Exploring the lava fields during a moonlit night. Lava entering the sea at different points on the Big Island of Hawaii. This one about 50 yards away from making its entry. One of the best experience since being a lava photographer is being out on a full moon night shooting lava. This is a repost after spending a little more time working on the file. Trapped steam beneath a river of lava accumulates a tremendous amount of pressure until it escapes in an instantaneous explosion of a lava, creating a one of a kind, airborne abstract. These lava bubbles are extremely rare, and are by far, my favorite aspect of volcanic activity to shoot, as you never know what you’re gonna get… kinda like a box of chocolates. Well, not really. 😉
