Not only Reinhold Messner has dubbed the Dolomites as the most beautiful mountains in the world. With its majestic aura they act like the teeth of the crown of the Alps.

Back from a short but intense trip to the Dolomites I was able to catch the first autumn colors. I´m not a fan of blue skies, but once there I had to deal with it. While hiking the whole day I enjoyed this soft and warm light at afternoon before the cold of the night broke in at 2200m. Thanks to my brother for having a great time outdoors.

Climbing a ridge with snowshoes is a great experience. Just in time I could make my photo here because the sun had disappeared shortly afterwards. After spending 9 days on the Island Senja last January/February this was the first time I was able to spot the sun… What a special moment for me.

Deep in the wooded valleys of Tyrol lies this round and crazy-colorful crater-lake. No track leads to the edge of this little pearl. While dark clouds moved across the sky that evening, the last light of the sun could dip the horizon in a bit of color for a moment. What a valuable discovery for me.

Have I told you that I just visited one of the most fanciful places that exists in a fantasynovel? It seems that places exists, where fantasy and reality merge. Even a dark place like Mordor apparently is alive in the otherwise idyllic world of the Alps. Just a view doorsteps away from the home of a lot of us. One reason why it is worth to hike hundreds of vertical meters in cruel heat and wait for hours in hope to catch the right light.

Even in summer the mountain range in the Misty Mountains seems bizarre and icy. Framed by black pinnacles that rise skyward, the glassy blue mirror lake is situated like a pearl.
Since my last photo tour into the Alps I fell more and more in love with the world of fantasy stories. This is for sure also due to the bizarre landscapes.
But when I think back, I always had an affinity for the fairytale.
Well, as you see, dream and reality are closer together than often assumed. For me one reason to even delve deeper into this fascinating world.

Where the forests are shady and light shines always gloomy, Dol Guldur exists. Surrounded by bizarre landscapes there wafts a constantly air of mysticism around the majestically rocks.
