Dont Give Up by SoliloquyPhotography-by-ChrisPegman

it would have been easy inside this dark shelter to feel negative & hopeless – & life can sometimes have any of us feel like that – yet, look up & out the (broken) window, & there is something so much better than the present circumstances would have you think possible.
Have faith, get up & get out into something better, something that floats yours dreams – in my case, getting out into the grandest of mountain scenery (through the window is the mighty Aoraki/Mount Cook)

Hooker Lake

Standing before Mt Cook in the icy waters of Hooker Lake. Not as silly as it sounds with appropriate waders on 🙂

Bloody Nuns by everlookphotography

Nuns Veil
Mount Cook National Park

It’s our last morning at Mount Cook and the forecast was for 100% cloud. I wake at 4am looking outside from the south end of Lake Pukaki and there’s a hint of stars. I figured we only had a short drive to Wanaka that day so I could have a sleepy day. Our previous three days here have been predominantly blue sky days except the previous evening which was Marianne’s turn to visit Hooker Lake ( where she got a ZZZ set of conditions – zero , zilch, zip (complete with finger signs) . Because of kid’s routines we hadn’t really been to many of the places around the park we would have liked to – Mt Wakefield, Ball Hut, Sealy Tarns etc.
As I drove north, the cloud really did start to blanket over but hey, I’m up for a boulder dash any time! So up I went on this 1km walk to witness maybe 20 seconds of passing light (this is it!) followed by ongoing grey. This is a very cool spot and hopefully the dark processing reflects the kind of morning that was on offer. Our premeditated trips to locations while on holiday with the kids has taught us to adapt our shooting to whatever mother nature throws at us (apart from really dire conditions) but hopefully a premeditated walk here on another day will yield some direct light!

Ashburton Floes by everlookphotography

Somewhere north of Lake Heron.

After some overnight snow, the entire area around Lake Heron was a beautiful sight. There were moments of ridiculous indecision on my part before I finally opted to go north of the Lake as far as I could before a waterway stopped me. This scene was taken a short while before the previously posted pano from this spot featuring the tussocks. ( Not sure which I prefer but I like them both so here they are!)

Ashburton Lakes

This is an image taken later in the morning from the same spot the pano I posted was taken. Light was from a plain sunrise but nonetheless beautiful. The foreground rocks were a rare feature in the foreground from this location

Antithesis by everlookphotography

Mount Cook
New Zealand

This is a fairly commonly shot location of which I am sure many others have similar compositions. I know in my mind, I had Kah Kit Yoong’s version in my mind. But mostly these days, I just shoot and whatever influences me consciously or subconsciously results in the end product. Mostly, I’m happy with what I’m doing and try not to let negativity get in the way.

I find I often write about what I try to avoid. Here’s something I came up with tonight:

What I’ve never seen, I assume
What I cannot achieve, consumes
This is my photographer’s creed
My armchair passion and deed

When my flimsy truth is caught out
I decline to accede , I lash out
This is my photographer’s etiquette
A leash on thoughts unkept

When I don’t succeed I accuse
What I never experienced is yours to lose
This is my photographer’s envy
That the world owes it all to me
