Moraira Sunrise. by FranciscoGarciaRios

Música (abrir en nueva pestaña) / Music (Open link in new tab): Lenny Ibizarre – El Viejo Pescador.
View of Dawn in Moraira (Alicante, Spain) from the Platgetes cove, facing East. The “Cap d’Or” (“cape of gold”) slows sunrise in the town, but compensates for that delay with a beautiful show of light and color in every dawn when the sun peeks out behind it.
On the foreground we can see the iron sculpture “Gaviotas” (“Seagulls”) by Antonio Marí Sart, just like an allegory to the freedom of the spirit before such beauty.

For those of you who follow my work, you know I have a bit of an unhealthy obsession with this place. Thor’s Well, on the Oregon coast. I’ve been here a few times (ahem).

Anyway, the trick is to get good tidal level, lots of cloud cover, no marine layer, and non-lethal waves. Sounds easy, right? I’ve been here many times and I’ve only seen it happen twice. But when all the elements come together, it’s a thing of beauty. A big thanks to Alex Noriega for his feedback during development.

I would like to bring attention to a photographer I’ve never met, Jeff Swanson, and who I only know through how he is remembered by his peers. It was too bad I never got a chance to meet him. He was lost way too early to Melanoma. I also lost my own mother to this terrible disease. I hope that more attention can be brought to the Melanoma Research Foundation (http://ift.tt/1Kmy96Z) and a cure can be found soon.

I met up with Michael Shainblum last night at Thor’s Well. We got pretty sweet conditions. I decided to take a stab at this new vantage point because the tidal conditions were perfect.
