Weight of Glory by VictorCarreiro

This is an update of an older image that I was no longer happy with. The cliffs of Davenport are beautiful and a great place to set up a camera and shoot until there ain’t no more more light. I couldn’t have asked for better conditions.

Starlight over Shark Fin Cove by brianfulda

This night was special. A few friends and I drove down the California coast from San Francisco to a little town called Davenport to shoot the sunset. Afterwards, we decided to get burritos and then head back to the beach to maybe shoot the Milky Way.

When we got back, there were all of these fishing boats with white lights dotting the horizon. At first, I was heartbroken, thinking that the bright lights would prevent me from getting a good shot of the Milky Way. But I waited for them to go out of sight from this view and they ended up illuminating what would have otherwise been a very dark foreground. They helped make the photograph, and I’m so glad they did!

A beautiful night of exploring the California coast. This tidal waterfall was exhilarating! Sets of big waves would come, and one would flow out on the waterfall while the next one crashed over the reef. We got soaked, but that’s part of the fun ๐Ÿ˜€

The person in the photo is my friend Johnny Wang. It looks more dangerous than it is, don’t worry ๐Ÿ™‚

Shark Fin Cove Milky Way by tobyharriman

Headed down to Shark Fin Cove last week to fly some drones with an awesome group. And after we waited around for this to happen below! They attached a flash light to a drone to help light rock. I have that version, but went for this later shot which I liked better. This was right at 10pm when the cop came to tell us our time was up. (Beach area closes at 10pm here or at least parking lot) When the cop turned around the car lights added a nice beam right at Shark Fin. Shot this tall pano with the Pentax 645z from Ricoh Imaging.

Starry Eyed by Shainblum

The stars aligned for me on this night and after a week of fogged in coastline, I finally got an opportunity to see the Milky Way over Shark Fin Cove. The neon light you see in the distance is from fishing boats and the warm light to the left is from Santa Cruz. It was an amazing night, I hope you all enjoy the photo.

This image is dedicated to Jeff Swanson. I never had the opportunity to meet him. But I very much considered him a friend. Our online conversations always left me laughing and smiling. A year ago he passed away from Melanoma. We all hold him in our hearts.

This was our sixth night in a row of chasing and shooting amazing sunsets with the โ€ช#โ€Žescaypeโ€ฌ crew last week. I really enjoyed the clouds on this night and tried to find a foreground that completed their curves. A couple of people were climbing the sea stack, so I left them in my shot for scale. It was a low tide, but we still got soaked ๐Ÿ™‚

The Milky Way seen through a cave on the California coast. Captured fully in the middle of the night a couple weeks ago.

It can be tough to get a clear night for astrophotography on the coast, but we’ve gotten all our shots on the first try, thanks to #escaype forecasts ๐Ÿ™‚
