Milford Sound, New Zealand… by dkphotographyaustralia
Milford Sound is a fiord in the south west of New Zealand’s South Island. It’s one of the world’s top travel destinations namely for its high snow capped peaks & surrounding cascades & waterfalls. There truly is no other place like it. But shooting here is a lucky dip. It is known as the wettest inhabited place in NZ and one of the wettest on the planet with 2 out of every 3 days with rainfall.
Every time we have shot here over the years we’ve been unlucky but this year we got to lay witness to something pretty amazing; a cloudless, warm sunset without a breath of wind. It was so calm & peaceful & one the most enjoyable & rewarding shoots.

All indications indication were that nothing special would happen this night while we were driving up to Milford Sound thru neck-breaking Fiordland National Park. It was another notorious rainy day in Fiordland. Everything grey and misty but yet a mystical scenery worth the many stops. Due to that we were running late for the sunset at Milfod Sound as I was thinking that nothing special would happen anyway. Arriving last minute when the light was unfolding to its full magic I still managed to get some shots. Yay! Had to jump into the water at an air temperature of around 7°C without my gumboots though as I left them in the car in the hurry.
Anyway, it was all worth the hassle and the colors where amazing that I even had to tone them down in PP.

I had an amazing trip to New Zealand over the last two weeks, and I am very much looking forward to sharing all my photos with you all. This was taken in Milford Sound as late afternoon light sent beams through the mountains in the background.
