Temples of Light by Pcoskun

This is an older image from perhaps my favorite trip to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. There was just something about this evening that provided me with some of the most memorable and dramatic light I could recall. Interestingly enough, there was never a crazy sunset that lit the entire sky. Just this very brief window where the ridges and temples towards the north rim of the canyon lit up in crimson hues. I remember posting an image of this moment back then (2013), but I totally forgot I had taken a series of frames that puts the sunlit sections in a nice arrangement. The low clouds slightly obscuring the left ridge and right temple leaving the brightest and most vibrant butte in the center. The varied hues of the canyon really added to the dreamlike atmosphere here. Almost the type of scene you might see in Lord of the rings or something like that. Anyways, with some new updated adjustments and going with more of my current style I decided to share this one. Also, since it is a winter scene (albeit kinda foreboding) I figured it would be a good time to say Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all of my followers! Thank you so much for your support over the years, it means a ton!

On the Edge by DanMontalbano

Grand Canyon, North Rim. Inspired by a recent moody South Rim shot on 500px by Peter James. Frankly, one of the reasons this site is so great – I’ve had this image for a while and was never really happy with previous edits. All it took was a little inspiration from a fellow 500px’er and I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.

South Rim Light by Pcoskun

I was going through some old folders as I typcially do looking for past images which I might want to reprocess or even attempt to reshoot in the near future. This was from the very first time I photographed a sunset along the grand canyons rim. I had been here numerous times before with family, but this happened to be an unplanned trip. A friend and I were in Moab wandering around arches and canyonlands national parks and got fed up with the windy and dusty conditions, so we left a day early and headed back into Arizona. I figured since we both still had a day to spend, we would go to the grand canyon and hopefully enjoy a nice sunset. It was still just as windy as it was in Moab, but there was a gap on the horizon leaving the possibility of a nice sunset. After sitting and watching the light and the canyon for an hour or so, these nice light rays began to make their way into the canyon. It ended up being a beautiful sunset and I still remember that evening pretty well. As much as I enjoy this image from a few years ago, it makes me want to try and recreate this scene or something better (or just give me a good excuse to spend some time up here). Perhaps in the next few weeks I will get that chance, but for now, this image will do.
