Caribbean Dog by dogbreathphotography

I’m baaaaaaack!!! 🙂
I’m breaking the superduper crazy bananapants silence thats floated in over here these past few weeks! The reason for my disappearance?! Photographing in the sparkling, impossibly crystal blue waters of the Caribbean!! I just returned back to the contiguous United States after an unbelievably magical adventure down in the Virgin Islands. Boy oh boy do I ever have stories for you! I cant even pull enough words out of my heart right now to describe what an absolutely incredible experience it all was.

I’m taking these first few days back on US soil to unpack, get my studio/workspace back up and running and to answer all the messages and emails I missed while I was away.

But in the meantime, I just had to quickly pop in and share one of my favorite images of the trip with you. This gorgeous girl is Penny. Penny is a rescued Border Collie/Corgi mix who makes it her full time job to gallivant across the sandy beaches of St. Croix. This girl was absolutely cuckoo for the water – she had us all absolutely cracking up at her playtime antics. Penny was quite proud to show me her turquoise ocean, we swam together as she paddled in relentless happy little circles underneath the tropical sun above us. From time to time, she would swim back to the beach to do a joyful, proper little roll in the sand (hence that fabulous sandy nose!!), and then she’d gleefully bounce right back in the water with me to do it all over again!

If there’s one thing I know from having the opportunity to visit unbelievable places like this – it’s that magic really does exist. And man oh man, I cant describe the gratitude that fills my heart for how incredibly lucky we are to call a planet so beautiful home.

High Five! by dogbreathphotography

Boy oh boy does little miss Dazzle ever live up to her name!!

She is the sparkliest, twinkliest, most joyful ray of sunshine. She simply shines – radiating silliness and happiness outward in every direction as she wags her way across the world. Yes, I do think that Dazzle is the most fitting name possible for this girl and her glittering spirit.

This past weekend, we spent the most perfect sunshine afternoon together – Dazzle and I. The late July summer air was sweeping all around – rustling Dazzle’s fur gently as it would breeze past us. The city was bustling – full of life and love – people passing on every side – all enjoying this perfect fairytale Summer. The sailboats and windsurfers were out in full force on the Charles River and we sat on this dock to watch them a while as the hot sun spilled it’s yellow rays across the water and onto our shoulders. Dazzle was feeling quite silly and playful – and as we laughed and laughed until our stomachs hurt there on the dock, she would show off all her tricks with an impossible enthusiasm. Dazzle liked to reach in for my lens – coming closer and closer with every move – tongue out with an exuberance and comedy that made my sides hurt from giggling. This is my absolute favorite moment of the day – it’s Dazzle in a nutshell – her silliness and sweetness summarized in one perfect, tiny fraction of a second.

HIGH FIVE, DAZZLE! 🙂

Splash! by dogbreathphotography

We just wrapped up another week/weekend of 5 straight shoots in a row over here in Dog Breath land, and my oh my was it ever glorious!!! 🙂 My days were spent chasing impossibly cute little four legged maniacs and wiping puppy snots off my lenses, and my nights were spent with my eyes glued to my iMac, unloading memory card after memory card of photographic joy while squealing with delight.

To start off our puppy extravaganza weekend, we met this gorgeous little soft-coated Wheaten man named Petey! When I heard that Petey loved the water, I knew we had to choose a location where he could let loose to splash and play! 🙂

We had our photo session on Boston’s south shore, at a perfect pebble beach that overlooks the city from across the bay. We spent the first half of our session being proper and dry – but deep down inside, we were all counting down the seconds until the moment that Petey’s little velvet paws hit that glorious water. Just as the sun began to sink toward the horizon and the brilliant colors of sunset began to twinkle across the sky – we knew it was time! Petey was unleashed in an explosion of silliness and joy as he bounded off in a happy frenzy toward his favorite place in the world – the water! I threw off my shoes and made a mad dash right behind him – determined to capture those tiny moments of whimsy that Petey was so proud to share with us. Petey stopped, looked right at me with a silly little grin, and then pushed his paw straight down into the water to create a furry induced tidal wave as he watched the water splash all around him with fascinated golden eyes.

Lucky for me and very fast shutter speeds, I was blessed to be able to capture this perfect moment of Petey’s proud silliness as the water danced like crystals all around him in the sunset air.
