The Deer Hunter by RussellMcGuire

Although I am from Texas, I am not a hunter. Never have been and don’t suppose I will ever become one. With that being said, I am also not one of those people opposed to wearing leather or eating meat. I like to think I understand how things work and I get that there is a need for hunting and killing animals. When I was taking this photo and looking through my lens, I could not imagine taking aim at these majestic animals and killing them. That’s just not me and not how my brain works. I see these animals and want to admire them at how regal and beautiful they are. As I said though, I am not a closed minded person and am trying to see things from the other side.

Growing up in Texas almost everyone I knew hunted. I would hear stories of my friends who would go out to their deer leases and spend the weekend with their father hunting. Some of the hunters I know also happen to be some of the most compassionate people. They would not hesitate to pull over on the side of the road and run out among traffic to rescue a dog in the middle of the street. Guess it just goes to show you that there are always to sides of every topic.
