Astracantha sicula (Astragalo dell’Etna) is a plant endemic of Sicily.
It grows on arid slopes of lava, at an altitude between 1000 and 2400 m.
The pinnate leaf consists of 6 to 12 pairs of leaflets, terminal leaflet is transformed into a fine thorny tip, tangy like a needle. The papilionaceous flower has a purplish pink corolla.
Flowering lasts from May to August.
