The famous Mr. Huang of Xingping in China. It was almost a surreal experience meeting him and even having the opportunity to get on his bamboo raft. Xingping has become very populated with Chinese tourists but it still has its charms during sunrise and sunset hours when the river and streets become empty.

I haven’t posted on 500px in awhile 🙂
spent most of my summer in China traveling around the guilin province.
Xingping is a bit heptic at day time due to large number of tourists, but becomes very serene and almost surreal-like around night time when the tourists leave.

Between 2005-2010 my wife and I lived for most of the time in Lijiang in the Chinese Province of Yunnan. This image was taken very shortly after moving to live in the UNESCO World Heritage Town.

The craziest lenticular I have ever seen and the smallest lens I had with me was a 300/2.8 as we were cycling off to photograph birds at a nearby wetland!

I thought we’d see this often over the next few years, and this was even the view from my office window, but never was it so good again! Such is photography!

This is not a long exposure – just a single frame of 1/320s to get it sharp with the 300mm.

I write educational material for creative and expressive photographers. We run small group Photo Tours & Workshops locally here in NW Scotland and in Iceland.

This is a very old photograph – one of the first landscapes I made with a digital camera, back in 2005.

We’d just moved to live in Lijiang, in the Chinese Province of Yunnan and were exploring for the first time.

This area is just north of the town, where we used to cycle. All gone now, with fancy apartments and 5 star hotels!

Beautiful area though, and still many treasures tucked away to discover.

I like this one because of the moody grey feel, with the threat of new snow.
