Free Falling by Arild_Heitmann

I love doing different and new stuff at locations that i have shot countless times.Skagsanden Beach in Lofoten is such a place. Its definately one of the most interesting spots on the Islands and its always a favourite when i bring clients here.

It is also a place that i have shot more than most photographers in the world. On this occation i wanted to do something new and exciting. And i think i came away with my definite favourite from this place. It was one hell of a shot to pull off under harsh conditions. Gale force winds and a mix of rain and hail. So worth it though!

Lofoten Waves by Arild_Heitmann

Shooting a storm in Lofoten when the sky opened up and glorious sunset glow let thru the stormy clouds. This was a scary session that my camera somehow survived. I kept my distance so that i wouldnt get pulled out to a certain death, but close enough to put my gear in a very dangerous position. How it survived getting hammered by waves is still beyond me.

October Lights by Arild_Heitmann

A fantastic display of the Northern lights in the Lofoten Islands. On this insane night me and Ryan took the group to some of our favourite locations on the islands. Waterfalls and crazy mountains. What a night!

Halwyll by Arild_Heitmann

Halwyll Mountain in Adventdalen on Svalbard. One of countless mountains on this remote arctic island. The arctic light up here is truly tremendous and something i`ve fallen in love with.

We are doing a workshop on Svalbard in april 2016. Just 2 spots left!

The Overlook by Arild_Heitmann

A pretty epic and unphotographed view over some of the finest mountains in Lofoten. Moody conditions that i mostly prefer over the glorious sunsets. The rainshowers in the distance added a fair amount of drama as well.

Serpent by Arild_Heitmann

On a windshaped plateu on a freezing mid-winter evening. I remember having problems operating my camera because of the cold wind and low temp. I was sweating like crazy after climbing the mountain on skiis and my hips were numb.
This is another random spot in the middle of nowhere 🙂

Wrath of Njörðr by Arild_Heitmann

Arctic wilderness at its rawest and finest. The wind was pushing, pulling, howling and filling the air with snow. My favourite conditions!

Northern Lights Finale – With Arild Heitmann

Finally home from almost a month in Norway. Holy crap, what a trip. The first half was spent leading one of the best tours I’ve ever led with my dear friend Arild Heitmann. The forecast looked pretty bad leading up to it, but at the last minute it changed, the skies cleared, and one of the best solar storms in the past decade gave us amazing shows 6 nights in a row. I honestly think some of the guys on the trip were starting to get bored with how much Aurora we got… which I’m sure pisses off my wife, because when she flew out to meet me there the following weeks it pissed rain and we could barely get any northern lights to save our lives. But the stormy and moody light that followed made for awesome shooting as well.

This is from one of the nights where we stayed out shooting and didn’t get back to our cabins until after 3am. I even think some of the dudes stayed up for another hour or so to have celebratory beers after an epic night of shooting. Maniacs.

Arild and I have another big tour available for next March where we will be shooting the crazy mountains of the Lofoten Islands with light and aurora, but hopefully with a little more snow! It will fill fast, so check it out soon!

Night of the Lights by Arild_Heitmann

A few weeks ago i wrapped up a fantastic week long workshop together with dear friend Ryan Dyar. The week before the trip was filled with storms and just nasty weather. I was worried that the whole trip would be spent in a cabin, watching Ryans weird youtube favourites (not that theres anything wrong with that). Well, it turned out to be the greatest week anyone could imagine. We had CRAZY auroras for 6 straight nights, and we shot it at some killer locations. After night 3 one of the clients said “this is an aurora orgy”. Orgies have a good ring to it, so i take that as something positive. By the end of the trip another client had problems with green blotches on his images. Im pretty sure it was the aurora that was burnt onto his sensor.

This particular shot was typical for how i shoot these things. Water rushing around me, up to my waist in a river. What a crazy and incredibly cool night! Oh, theres even a shooting star up there.

If you want to join us in Lofoten and Chase scenes like this and have tons of crazy fun along the way, please check out www.lofotentours.com

You wont regret it!

Me and Ryan are doing another trip in late march. Still time to join that one! I hear its the funniest trips around 🙂
