Golden evening light and wind on the dunes of Death Valley, California. No orton effects here, that’s just the glow of blowing back/side-lit sand.

I know, “another” dune shot. But this is the culmination of conditions I had always hoped for, and before this image, hadn’t seen, at the dunes. Wind was forecast for this particular evening, so I made sure to be there. The way blowing sand glows and catches light is pretty amazing, and I was fortunate enough to find this dynamic composition before the light was gone, along with the wind.

The wind certainly could have been better, so I won’t call it quits on shooting dunes just yet – but it did enough for this image to make it stand out among my own dune shots, at least. This is one of my two favorite dune images, the other being the quieter “Nocturne of Shadow” from November of 2014.

Solitary by eyeofalens

Solitary
There is something about being somewhere & taking it all in alone that I find compelling. Not that I dont mind sharing, I just enjoy the sound of silence or nature & just being.
I do however yearn to share these things with my son.
Mesquite dunes & a lone walker battling the sand & wind in the distance.

Desert Brew by eyeofalens

Desert Brew

One of many taken in Death Valley
on my 2nd evening here & things got allot more moodier than this,
& the winds were just howling.
It was surreal being out here with no one else around, other than watching people leaving in the distance as the sun faded away.
Walking back to the car in the dark, feels a whole lot further than when walking in during daylight.

Sand & Cameras don’t mix. but you do what you do.
Allot of places I could not access, as luck would have it a series of storms days before & the week before brought once in a thousand year level of rains ! roads washed out, no access.

Natures illuminated manuscript by aagazzi

The sheer beauty of nature is shown as well on sand dunes, formed by sand and wind, that’s it! Imagine something similar man-made. I am always fascinated about it, again, again and again!
