Solitude – Except Mosquitoes by morganpt

This was another night in Ann Arbor where the mosquitoes and lilly pads dominated. Luckily, though mosquitoes are not photogenic, lilly pads are! I waded out to this one to shoot a the lilly pad focus stack to ensure clarity, and then stitched two long exposure images together to get the rest of the frame. For best viewing, please press H and M to see large on a black background.

Last Minutes by morganpt

At the tail end of a storm, the clouds are rushing by, the brilliant sun sets, the lilly pads soak up the last minutes of light. All is good in Ann Arbor.

Definitely best enjoyed on black. Hit H and then M to make it big too!!

Michigan Photographer in Ann Arbor by morganpt

An image of my friend Bhumsoo (check out his images at http://ift.tt/1vdbi6n) as he captures the beauty in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Once again, the format of the “square” on 500px does vertical images an injustice by concealing the drama of a tall photo. I just hope you like this!!

Beacon of Hope by morganpt

Built in 1910 after many ships ran ashore in the turbulent waters of Lake Superior (29 ships in one storm alone), Split Rock lighthouse was built to protect sailors as they carried their iron ore and other raw materials across the waters.

This was another fun image too, since I was standing in the water to get in and low enough to catch the sun’s glare off of the rocks. It’s three images – one focused on the rocks in the foreground, one on the lighthouse, and one bracketed for the sky. All combined in CS6.

Best view large and on a black background (press H and M)

Split Rock 105th Birthday by morganpt

July 31st was the 105th year celebration of Split Rock Lighthouse’s birthday. Though not taken on it’s birthday, this was it’s birthday weekend!!! This image is several long exposure stitched images, which lends itself to some interesting light / color differentials. I hope you like it!!!

Apocalyptic Blue Moon by morganpt

This blue moon in Duluth, Minnesota ‘apparently’ is a premonition for the end of the world. Despite this ‘news’ I’m feeling pretty good about my first ever night in Minnesota: http://ift.tt/1Id54EK

Breezy Leaves by morganpt

In the face of an oncoming storm, this tree in Port Clinton remained steadfast. Actually, it only shook a little during this long exposure!!

Definitely best viewed with a black background and large, so please press H then M!!

Then the Sky Breaks by morganpt

Watching a storm roll in over Lake Michigan at sunset is an awe-inspiring treat. You get the sounds of the waves, slapping the sandy beach. You get the gust of cold air, that relieves the day’s heat. You get the reds and blues broken up by the heavy clouds. And then the sky breaks.

Definitely best viewed when pressing H and then M:-)

Canada Kayak Trip by morganpt

Seeking water as turquoise and clear as the Caribbean in Tobermory, CA, I was excited to find myself alone on Flower Pot island after kayaking the 6km across the water. Here is the blue hour that was turned a bit purple from my BW filter. At first I wanted to alter the sky, but then thought I liked the catchy sky. Cheers!

For best viewing, press “H” and then “M” to see large with a black background.

Mad Max Teddy by morganpt

Now this is just a plain fun image that I hope will brighten your Monday morning (or Sunday night). The teddy bear and the car were a part of the Ann Arbor “Rolling Sculpture Show,” that exhibited 400 or so classic cars.

Cheers from Michigan!
