The best of mornings I have had in recent days are the ones I spent with bee-eaters………..it’s really awesome reaching the colonies of bee eaters before first light……………placing ourselves in a hide…………and then watching these birds wake-up and start their day………….with us as part of their colony…………amazing……….perhaps I would never forget this experience for the rest of my life……………….

Crowned Beauty: Hoopoe by RiazSiddiki

First time I ever came across this magnificent bird……..was when I visited north of Pakistan few years back………I was awed by its beauty…………. every time I visited Gilgit Baltistan thereafter……….Hoopoe always remained an attraction for me……..after getting to know birders in Islamabad…….I was introduce to locations where this bird visits during migration………this shot was taken in Islamabad.

Hoopoe is a medium-sized bird, 25–32 cm (9.8–12.6 in) long, with a 44–48 cm (17–19 in) wingspan. It weighs 46–89 g (1.6–3.1 oz). The species is highly distinctive, with a long, thin tapering bill that is black with a fawn base. The strengthened musculature of the head allows the bill to be opened when probing inside the soil. The hoopoe has broad and rounded wings capable of strong flight

We travelled over hundred kilometers and reached Talagang before sunrise to get these beautiful blue cheeked bee eaters, in their prime colors, in just the right light………the results we got were just amazing…….in this shot I positioned and leveled myself to get the bee eater with sunlight hitting it…….against a background where the light was yet to reach…….

I don’t know about others – but spending time in bee eaters’ colony is always mesmerizing for me…….. With my friends, I have been spending several hours under hot summer sun during last few weeks…….. just to see these amazing creatures of God…….. going about their daily routine life……..awesome experience…….. one has to be there to believe it……..
