One Lonely Summer Evening by by_shan

Chasing Milky Way is one of my favoriate things to do, sadly it has rotated out of the night sky during winter time.. Can’t wait to do it again next year. PS: the fat model in the frame wasn’t me:)

Milky Way over Shenandoah (re-edit) by by_shan

This is a 2×6 Pano stitch, I posted the original version 3 months ago here; at the time I wasn’t 100% happy with the edit as there was visible vignette along the stiching border from the 14mm wide angle. Finally got some time to re-edit it.. Changes are subtle but I am happy with the end results. Thanks for viewing, hope you enjoy. Please press “M” to see the image in better quality.

CONVERGENCE by DianiRalph

Sometimes one is just plain lucky !!!
On my way home from an art gallery party one night, I noticed that there was a very clear sky. I made an “on the spur of the moment” decision to grab my camera and tripod and walk down onto our beach to see what it all looked like from there.
A super low tide meant that I could get away from the Palm trees and Casurina trees so that I could actually see the milky way clearly going from one horizon to the other.
Through a slight wine haze and much to my wife’s amusement I started clicking away knee deep in water, while trying to remember if I had all my settings correct.
The next morning when I managed to stitch all the photos together with a surprisingly cooperative LR I saw that this amazing sand ripple arch reflected the shape of the MW arch lending the photo a real feeling of symmetry.
Several repetitive nights never gave me the same conditions, and now that the skies here are more or less cloud free, the MW has dipped under the horizon.
While I have seen that photography is 99% planning and preparation, every now and then it is also just pure luck!!
This is a total of 21 photos, 3 lines of 7 photos, with the lower line along the beach at 15sec, and the upper two lines at 25sec.
MY ONE AND ONLY MW PANO !!!

This is a single Milky Way shot, I flipped it horizontally cause I kind of like the position better, hope you find it somewhat different too 🙂

Went stargazing yesterday. New moon, Perseid meteor shower and cloudless skies, couldn’t ask for a better condition. Milky way was the clearest I ever saw.

This is a 2×6 Pano, I will likely rework this image at some point as I wanted to rework some of the vignette shown

My God, It’s Full of Stars! by RussellMcGuire

I had a chance to go out in the middle of nowhere and shoot some pictures of the Milky Way. Coming from Houston, I was amazed to be able to see that many stars. When I got out of my car, I looked up and thought I was dreaming. I had never seen a sky like that. The entire time I was out there, I kept thinking of the quote from 2001 A Space Odyssey, “The thing’s hollow — it goes on forever — and — oh my God! — it’s full of stars!”

孤獨的夜晚 (one lonely night) by by_shan

Chasing Milky Way alone in the middle of no where was such a solitary and awesome experience. Under the Milky Way sky and billions of bright stars, the feelings inside me were small, insignificant, quiet, peaceful, and excitement; I can’t wait to go back again!

Night Stacks… by solstafirphotography

This shot was taken on the only night we had of the trip with any semblance of clear skies. only about 3-5 minutes after i rushed this exposure the entire area was completely clouded over and stayed that way for the next two weeks ha ha.

Unfortunately I didn’t anticipate the speed with which the clouds were descending upon me so these exposures were at a higher ISO than I would have liked to use as I was more testing to see how much detail I could get, with a view of taking more exposures after at different settings. End result being way more noise that I had planned for, which leaves me quite disappointed. But hey, I still got something and that just inspires me to go back there sometime and redo it better!
