Climbing a ridge with snowshoes is a great experience. Just in time I could make my photo here because the sun had disappeared shortly afterwards. After spending 9 days on the Island Senja last January/February this was the first time I was able to spot the sun… What a special moment for me.

This was taken along the coast near Vareid, Norway. The waves would crash over rocks on the incoming tide with the mountains visible across the fjord. I cannot say enough about how spectacular the scenery is in Lofoten.
For this shot I had to wait for a low point in the waves and climb up on an isolated rock. From this spot I was at risk of getting sprayed by on coming waves and there was no place to hide. One wave in particular I saw was going to get me wet, so I grabbed my camera held it close. I turned around, shielding my camera with my body, and flipped on my jacket hood for good measure.
It was a rare wave that was in the “Goldilocks zone” — not to big, not too small that would create a good flow over the rocks. I also had to bracket the exposure to get the sky and the sunstar, so I had to act fast before the next wave would come in. This kind of shooting gets my adrenaline going! Thanks to Arild Heitmann for showing me how to get it done. I hope you enjoy this image from an exciting sunset session in Norway.

Anyone who is using niksoftware on CC15? Cannot install it in CC, does not recognize file format?? hmmm anyone that knows??
