Working Together by cgifford

Not many years ago, a Piliated Woodpecker attacked this tree and chipped away the largest hole that at the time I had ever seen made by a bird. This year that hole became a nursery den for a family comprised of a gray mama squirrel and her four baby kittens. Who knew Woodpeckers were such good home builders! A good example of God’s provisions!

The Eye of the Finch by cgifford

While I’m happy to report that this particular male finch has both of his eyes, this image draws attention to what is called finch eye disease. Infected birds can actually become blind and thus starve to death, unable to see food, or fall prey to unseen predators. I became aware of this disease a couple of years ago when I began my quest of close-up wildlife images. It is heartbreaking to see them suffer.
