Photography for a Cause!!! by RiazSiddiki

Almost a year ago – we formed a small group of photographers and bird lovers – with an objective to create awareness about birds native to Margala National Park & Rawal Lake, as well as birds visiting these areas in different seasons. It was said that the species found in these areas could be over 300. Information about bird species, with locals, was scarce and frankly very few seem to care.

Our initiative and drive “Birds of Islamabad” – was aimed at to catalogue all the bird species found in Margalas and Rawal Lake, and side-by-side raise awareness level amongst the locals so that we can subsequently turn this into a preservation and conservation movement. Many of us have spent countless days in the field……sparing time from our family lives………and holidays……..initially we were only handful…….but now nearly 10-15 active members ensure that things move on at a rapid pace………..Today, we are very happy to report that only in 10 months time, we have catalogued and photographed almost 220 bird species and more importantly there are some 1,800 members of the group who care for the birds…….we are on the roll……this one picture and the man photographed represents our drive to ensure that the birds of Margalas and Rawal Lake are there for generations to come………….
