The summer monsoons are finally here in the desert. It is both an exciting and frightening time to be out here and I cannot wait to get some good stormy photographs in my portfolio this year. This image happens to be from last years monsoon. I took one of my favorite images this particular evening, but couldn’t help but wander around searching for various compositions and trying to get the remaining light. This storm had just began moving towards the north when I had arrived. I was hoping for something epic in terms of weather, but I was pleasantly surprised by the subtle beauty of the clearing storm. Different shades of pastel colors painted the sky and rocks around me. Even more surprising, was the lake being so calm after such a large storm system. It was a productive evening, and I hope to have many productive evenings in the desert this summer.
