What Jimmy Said… by RussellMcGuire

I am quickly becoming a fan of California and taking pictures of the ocean. Don’t get me wrong, I love shooting Arizona and the mountains, but there is just something natural feeling being next to the water. Hearing the waves break against the rocks, smelling the salt in the air, seeing the sun set over one of God’s greatest creations; to me, there is nothing more magical than that.

As I sit along the beach, I am reminded of the great poet (ok, half-ass song writer) Jimmy Buffet, and his ode to the sea “Pirate Looks at Forty”.

Yes, I am a pirate two hundred years too late
Cannons don’t thunder there’s nothin’ to plunder
I’m an over forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late

Seems that I was meant to live by the ocean but somehow I ended up in the desert. I have a feeling it’s only a matter of time before I call the West Coast home. I am getting ready to head out to Laguna Beach next weekend to give the ocean another shot. Hopefully, I will come back with a ton of great shots to share.

Washed Away by RussellMcGuire

As I was walking along the beach in La Jolla, I looked out and saw this small rock cropping. There is nothing “special” about it, but I must have sat there for an hour watching the waves hit it. Something about the sound of the water, the smell of the salt air, and feeling the cool breeze on my face just made me feel relaxed. Sometimes in life, it’s not the giant mountains or vast wide open landscapes that need to be photographed, but the small little things in life that make you smile and make you glad to be alive.

Death of a Camera by RussellMcGuire

This was my second time every to visit San Diego and I have fallen in love with it! Funny thing about this photo though, this was taken right before a giant wave hit and got my camera wet. Lucky it dried out but gave me a good scare.

High Tide Falls by MattAden

San Diego has been experiencing a lot of hightide sunsets lately. On occasion the high tides wash away the beach leaving these massive boulders up and down the beach. When the high tide and big waves meet these rocks it makes for an incredible show. This is about as close as we get to waterfalls here in San Diego… Unless you go inland.

I didn’t expect having this when I visited a modern museum. A small pond in a very small garden was the best I enjoyed yesterday. It was cool under the shade. Always want to share the best to my 500px friends.
Have a nice weekend!!
