Eltz castle by MaxConradPhotography

The famous medieval castle sits hidden in the hills above the valley of the river Mosel. On that particular morning the scenery was very special and spooky as the fog just reached up to the castle with the sun glaring through, also we were the only people around at that time. Usually I don’t post more than photo in a row of a certain subject but this one is hard not to show, what do you think?

A Light in the Dark by martinpodt

A Light in the Dark, Veluwe, the Netherlands.

Another autumn shot. I like photos with a bit of a dark mood, like this one. Not sure if everyone will appreciate this, but I hope you do… 😉

Swainson’s hawk with bats by ari1982

During my trip to New Mexico back in September, I spent some time photographing Swainson’s hawks at a bat cave. Every evening, millions of bats come out of this cave in pursuit of insects at a lake nearby, the flock of flying bats paints a dark trail in the sky stretching for miles as far as the eye can see. Swaison’s hawks approach from above diving at bats. The bats can only detect what’s in front of them by echo (they can’t quite see) so the hawks can easily snatch them from behind. Each hawk consumes tens of bats in flight until it is full. Photographing at this location was extremely challenging as the bats came out minutes before the sunset and with thick clouds in the sky, I started shooting at ISO 5000 and after a few minutes I was at ISO 50,000!, Almost like shooting flight shots at night. I was surprised my camera was even locking focus in such low light. Predictably, keepers were few. Nevertheless, this was an impressive sight and an experience like nothing else.

The Old Lane by martinpodt

The Old Lane, Sallandse Heuvelrug, the Netherlands.

SALE! If you want to have my photo ‘Keep on Dreaming’ on canvas, now is the time! Click here.

This is a place that you cannot reach very easily. Hidden in the forest, this lane is one of my favorite photo locations. Nevertheless, I had not been there for a while, so last weekend I went there again. When I arrived, the light was not very great though. I waited for almost an hour until the light was finally satisfactory. I hope you like it. 😉

The Abandoned Church by marcperrella

This is the main sanctuary of an abandoned church in Detroit. Even in its present state, it is a pretty amazing place. The builders obviously took great pride in this one….so much intricacy in the design and thought to the way the sunlight would stream in. I couldn’t help but wonder what it must have looked like when that last family walked out of worship service and the lights were turned off for the final time.
