“Un passo dal Cielo” Lago di Braies

Il Lago di Braies giace ai piedi dell’imponente parete rocciosa della Croda del Becco e si trova all’interno del parco naturale Fanes – Sennes e Braies. Ha un’estensione di circa 31 ettari con una lunghezza di 1,2 km e una larghezza di 300-400 metri. È uno dei laghi più profondi della provincia autonoma di Bolzano, con ben 36 metri di profondità massima e una profondità media di 17. Il lago è di origine franosa, in quanto la sua creazione è dovuta allo sbarramento del rio Braies a causa di una frana staccatasi dal Sasso del Signore.

E per concludere questo “semifreddo” mese…

Era una delle prime calde notti di inizio Luglio di questa estate bollente…stare in maniche corte a circa 2.500 m di quota non mi è capitato spesso!

Impossibile quindi fare a meno di salire in quota ed adagiarsi sulle sponde di questo specchio d’acqua…aspettando il calare della notte e il sorgere della luna piena.
Vedendo il sole tramontare alle spalle dell’imponente “Rocca la Meja” (VALLE MAIRA!) si presenta una scena in stile “very fantasy” in cui la stazza ardita del monte mi ha fatto ricordare la scena finale della celebre pellicola del 1995…”Waterworld”.
Un mondo pieno d’acqua dove ci si sposta su ogni genere di imbarcazione e dove nel finale si presentano finalmente in lontananza gli alti picchi della terra ferma.

Il piccolo “ospite” volatile, presente sulla punta “dell’isolotto”, proprio non voleva andarsene e quindi…perché non far entrare in scena una piccola “imbarcazione” DIY in aiuto per la partenza dall’isola!
Che altro dire…a volte l’avere un blocco note per gli appunti nel proprio zaino fotografico…torna utile non solo per scriverci sopra…ma anche per improvvisare una particolare scena fotografica!

Winter’s Remnant by lolloriva

Mountains passes in Switzerland are open only about 3 months a year during summer. This capture has been taken on top of Nufenen Pass, the highest drivable mountain pass of my country. While wandering around during twilight scouting for a good spot for a star trail, I found this beautiful water pond with still some winter’s snow melting into it and thought it could be a good spot. Then I left to drive down a little bit the pass road to shoot something else (you’ll see what in the next future …) and at around midnight I came back to this spot and start to shoot this capture which is made by 2 focus stacking shots for the foreground and around 100 shots for the star trail. I am sure there are a few technical questions to be answered, so I will address how the photo was taken for a moment.

This image is an 85MM photograph of the Galactic Core rising behind a lone tree on a hill. The tree is on top of a hill and I am standing at the bottom, giving me the ability to move around and plan the exact position to catch the Galaxy rising in the right spot. Also giving me the ability to get a clean Milky Way rising right above the horizon without a ton of light pollution. The image is a mix of two different photos, one 50 second photo taken of the Galaxy. Which uses a star tracker device that follows the stars and allows you to take long exposures without star blur. Then the 2nd photo is 50 secounds without the star tracker for the tree and the hill. The positioning of the Milky Way has been left natural to what I viewed in person. These photos were taken no more then 1 -2 minutes apart. Currently to take an image like this in one exposure and retain this amount of quality is not possible. In a few years it will most likely be possible, due to the development of better high iso sensitivity cameras. I actually took this image over a year ago and have been working really hard tweaking the colors and deciding what I wanted to say about the image. Its a difficult image to describe and I know there will most likely be some disconnect with the photo, even after reading this description. But thanks for checking it out!

On the break from the 1st storm and the 2nd I had a chance to take 40 pics to merge for a startrail. What make this moment amazing was the beautiful northern lights above the Kirkufell mount.
