Liquid of life by MartinKrajczy

Liquid of life in the Namib desert. We did follow this thunderstorm for a few hours . The rain fall was always on our left hand side. It was great to observe it moving through the desert building a stripe of grass. After a few hours we nearly had to drive through… tough winds were coming up out of nothing and the silence of the hot desert during afternoon suddenly was gone. It was just awesome to observe the nature forces at work. Since that i know why you drive for hours through a dry landscape with no animals and suddenly there are hundreds of them…. such a thunderstorm happend exactly there 2-3 weeks ago…a miracle of life — Re-mastered version of a shot taken in March this year in the Namib desert

Golden Magic by MartinKrajczy

In life everybody tells you not to look back…look forward. This is different in photography. When i was driving up the first hills after Gulfoss in Iceland i saw some golden glow in the mirror of my car. So i stopped and looked back. It was a rainy day and out of nothing there were some holes in the clouds which let the sun come through . It was an unbelievable light so it took the time to do some shots. It was well invested because a few kilometers later i had to stop my tour and turn back as the road in the highlands was closed. On the right hand side of the picture you see some mist. But it is not the rain. It is the mist of Gulfoss. Adds another dimension to this waterfall if you can see the mist from so far away.

Magical storm by MartinKrajczy

Panorama frame (out of eight single frames) – The flanking bench of the oldest desert in this world. At this place you are roughly 700-800 meters above the desert. The rain storms above this place very often ends at this place and the rain doesn´t reach the desert which you can see already. It is always a spectacular view from this place so each time possible we stop by. It is a private farm so we have to ask for access or we stay there over night. Can you imagine that the are in the lower third of the frame does belong to this farm. And it is just the northern end of the farm … a very small part of it. These dimensions are unbelievable for a guy like myself coming from Germany. But that is the reason why i like Namibia…space, space, space and silence, silence, silence.

Stormy weather over the First by ManuelMartin1972

Well, some weeks ago we were with friends at this location called „First“. And after some time and lots of work we built a fantastic fire and were able to grill our own snake bread and sausages. The women chatted, the children were playing together and the men were playing with their model aircrafts. Well, unfortunately this is not my hobby. In the distance I could already see the beginning of the Alps and I had such a hunger for adventure! But I was also able to observe how slowly a storm formed around us! Cool! Well, since I had my backpack with my equipment always with me, I could not resist this temptation and took this picture before it started to rain!

Thank you for your time and interest in my photos, your visit is most appreciated 🙂

Thunderstorm over Elba by ManuelMartin1972

What can I say? Despite the excellent weather without clouds (for most of the time) we had during 2 days the chance to see a huge thunderstorm over the island! Ha ha ha … how cool it was for me to make some shots 😉 It was evening and very hot and I was sitting in front of our tent … and I could observe how all the people were collecting everything lying around in a nervous manner. I looked to the distance and saw how a storm front was approaching the island. YEEESSS! I took my backpack with my photography equipment and made my way to the beach. It was really funny to see how everyone on the beach was leaving very quickly the area … except of me he he he 🙂 And everyone I met on my way was saying to me to leave the place and that I was on the wrong way! To give always the same answer was a bit annoying … so I began to change my answers: „Yes, I know … but I want to make some shots and therefore …“, „Yes, thank you so much, but you know … it’s … bla bla bla …“, „Thank you, very kind of you, for sure I will go away from here, just one photo and then …“, „Oh boy, I already know about the storm, but thank you“, „My god, you too … OK, I got it!“, „ Yes, thank you, but I forgot something!“, „Really? Thank you … smile!“, „Dangerous? Not for me!“, „A storm? Unbelievable, isn’t it he he he!“, „I’m a meteorologist! This is my job!“, „Don’t worry, I’m living on the beach!“, „Ha! No panic! I’m strong like a lion!“, „I want to say good night to my wife, she’s a mermaid!“, „Look behind you, there is a sand troll.“, „It’s because I want to die.“, „No worry, I’m the weather god!“ … my god, it was like in a circus, but very funny he he he 🙂 And finally on the rocks of the beach I could make this photo before the thunderstorm reached the area!

Thank you for your time and interest in my photos, your visit is most appreciated 🙂

Light in the dark… by MartinKrajczy

The Namib desert has so many different faces. In the last few years we have travelled through this canyon a couple of times as it is close to an important road. But this time the light situation was special. On this cloudy day the sun was breaking through from time to time. When we arrived at this scenic point of the road i jumped out of the car when i saw that the sun was breaking through above us. The light color of the sand is a great contrast to the dark rocks and around the river bed. The sunlight spot was awesome to see.

Desert storm by MartinKrajczy

This tree did survive the fire but was broken by the wind – lucky tree? It is a question of perspective but there is still life and a chance for growth. – The picture is taken in the Namib at sunset during a heavy thunderstorm…the first rain after two years. The high contrast of the ground with the sunset light and the dark thunderstorm clouds was spectacular and enchanting. The black ground at the bottom of the frame is burned grass from the last fire.Iwas walking through the thunderstorm a few hours before with a friend..surreal such heavy rain in the desert. The colors of the grass after the rain was unbelievable…great memories. Here the thunderstorm is already on its way so the conditions of sun and dark clouds without rain was perfect.

Thunderstorm magic by MartinKrajczy

We could see this thunderstorm for hours driving through the southern parts of Namibia. We discussed if our target location is behind, before or directly under the storm area. When we arrived we knew it is at the edge of the storm. As the sunset was not far away the light was incredible and we did have heavy winds but only a few rain drops. This is one of the first shots which i took in this location. The sun was still high if visible. But the tones were already golden. I faced the issue that there have been some farm buildings in my favourite direction. So i did chose a low angle to get rid of them. You can see the heavy winds due to the moving grass. The quiver trees are just awesome in this light and the baya nests are really huge with hundreds of them in one nest. If you want to get nervous just stand below of such a huge baya nest for 10 minutes and watch the birds coming and going. Five minutes after this shot i had to jump into the car for a few minutes as the rain got stronger.

Miracle of Rain by MartinKrajczy

This rain initiates a miracle in the desert. A few days after this storm you can see the first grass coming out of nothing. And two – three weeks later the animals are back in this part of the desert. We did drive a few hours parallel to this thunderstorm. Later we crossed it. It was a heavy storm but with a local focus. In other regions of the Namib desert there such a local thunderstorm happened a few weeks before we saw the grass and the animals coming back. So strange. For a long time you see nothing in the desert and suddenly there are hundreds of Oryx and other animals in one local area….the miracle of rain.
