Blue Cheeked Bee-eaters are not very common in our region – but this season I spent more time with Blue-Cheeked Bee-eaters, than Green Bee-eaters and Blue-Tailed Bee-eaters………….I must say that every minute spent in the colony had something magical about it………….

Most interesting (and most satisfying) aspect of bird watching and photographing is that one gradually becomes sensitive to each and every little move of birds……..I often wonder what the birds would be thinking when they do something or act in a particular way…….it’s better than watching TV ☺

Close-up Series: Blue Cheeked Bee-Eater by RiazSiddiki

In birds and wildlife photography……….some are inclined towards photographing the bird / animal as part of its environment………….yet some ignore the environment and go for close-ups and feather details…………..for me both aspects are important……..some times I love to shoot bird as part of its environment and some times I go closer……….Close-up are special to me as I feel more intimate with the bird…….getting to see details that are not always so clear and evident with naked eye……….Over the next few weeks……I’m going to focus more on close-ups I took………here is the first one…………Gorgeous Blue Cheeked Bee-Eater

Good Morning!!! Blue Cheeked Bee Eater by RiazSiddiki

The best of mornings I have had in recent days are the ones I spent with bee-eaters………..it’s really awesome reaching the colonies of bee eaters before first light……………placing ourselves in a hide…………and then watching these birds wake-up and start their day………….with us as part of their colony…………amazing……….perhaps I would never forget this experience for the rest of my life……………….

We travelled over hundred kilometers and reached Talagang before sunrise to get these beautiful blue cheeked bee eaters, in their prime colors, in just the right light………the results we got were just amazing…….in this shot I positioned and leveled myself to get the bee eater with sunlight hitting it…….against a background where the light was yet to reach…….

I don’t know about others – but spending time in bee eaters’ colony is always mesmerizing for me…….. With my friends, I have been spending several hours under hot summer sun during last few weeks…….. just to see these amazing creatures of God…….. going about their daily routine life……..awesome experience…….. one has to be there to believe it……..
