The aqueduct’s purpose was to carry water from the Oro River to the city of Tepotzoltan. The structure is 41,900 meters in length and 61 meters in height (at its tallest point).
Construction began by the Jesuits but was completed by Manuel Romero de Torres due to the expulsion of the Jesuits from Mexico. The aqueduct was completed in 1854.
