Thor’s Hammer Sunrise by mhitchner

Visiting Bryce Canyon National Park for the first time was an absolutely incredible experience. My girlfriend and I hiked the navajo loop trail the day before this shot was taken and when I passed this spot I immediately wanted to try to shoot it at sunrise the next day. We got up at 4:00am in order to make it out to the spot in time for sunrise. There was not another person within eye or earshot, and with no wind it seemed as though you would be able to hear a pin drop across the entire valley. It is so invigorating and awesome to be in such an incredible landscape with no one else around. Some heavy cloud cover had blown in overnight but as the morning sun began to glow behind the horizon it all began to dissipate. I was quite happy with the result of the early morning. This shot really captures how I felt during my first visit to the park.
