Back in my HS days I was mesmerized by this wintry sunrise photo of mountains with a frozen lake. For the longest time I never knew where that photo was taken or what mountains were in the shot. Needless to say that very shot was Vermilion Lakes.
Fast forward more than 10 years later I finally had the opportunity of visiting and shooting the famed Vermilion Lakes. The dipping temperatures of November began freezing the lake shorelines and an overnight dusting of snow helped cover everything in a pristine white. To my luck sunrise provided ample cloud coverage that burned a vivid red while light beams emerged from behind Mt. Rundle.
