Pearly White by stiann

A nice and thick blanket of fresh snow covers the landscape on a winter’s day in western Norway. Single exposure, didn’t do a whole lot of editing really. Soon winter is here again!

Cloudbuster by stiann

As the first signs of autumn are already evident, I thought I’d dig into the archives for some autumn shots. Seen here is Sognefjorden in western Norway dressed up in fall color and fog. The seawater was completely still making for near perfect reflections. To be clear this isn’t a composite, in fact it’s not even bracketed. It’s a single shot complete with blocked up blacks and blown highlights.

PS, in case you think you’ve seen this before, you’re right. Almost. I uploaded a long exposure version of it way back. It got a lot of likes, but in the end I was never happy with the processing and the LE washed out too much texture in the fog. I think this is better, although not perfect, given the muddy file I had to work with. The old one have now mysteriously disappeared from my gallery!

Red Comfort II by stiann

As I drove by this area the other night, the clouds turned nice and golden and I remembered I kind of sort of already had a comp I could…reuse. What can you do, I snapped a couple of frames and in my ongoing procrastination of more elaborate edits, a quick cosy-cabin-in-sunset image seemed just right. 🙂

Frozen Kingdom by stiann

A rare sight in this remote wilderness of snow and ice on a Norwegian high mountain plateau. One morning a lone Arctic Fox passed paid us a visit on his relentless search of food in this barren environment. Sadly the Arctic Fox is a critically endangered species and in all of Norway there’s only 120 adult individuals left. He paused for a brief moment checking me out before disappearing into the white yet again.

This absolutely needs to be viewed on black, hit the H key! Thanks for stopping by, any feedback appreciated.

Winter Solstice Magic by stiann

-30C on the shortest day of the year in western Norway. There’s some six hours of golden light on this day and the snow takes on the colors of the fiery sky. As with any time I’m presented with good light, I wasn’t really able to come up with a overly compelling composition. However I still decided to take some shots of the magical scene. Hopefully it can cool you down in the summer heat. 🙂

Edge of the Ledge by stiann

Autumn colors are peaking in this damp and dramatic waterfall environment in western Norway. In this area the Hardangervidda high mountain plateau steeply drops off into the fjord areas of western Norway. For scale, the waterfall to the left is some 535 feet tall. I’m guessing there’s a ~700 feet drop from the ledge I’m standing on. Didn’t fall in though, just barely. 🙂

Moonlit Silence by stiann

A biting cold night at a glacial runoff lake in Norway. There wasn’t a breath of wind in the air and the lake laid motionless like glass. The silence was only interrupted by the crackling sound of ice forming along the shoreline. Press M for full resolution and H to view on black.

Triangular by stiann

Eggenipa is a landmark peak that rises up in between farms and glaciers in western Norway. Shot this as a long exposure to catch some interesting and uneven cloud movement. Press M for full resolution or H to view on black.

Note that I did separate exposures for the sky and the lake, so the reflections might not add up exactly due to the LE. Actually I don’t have the two in the same shot at all, chose to keep the actual exposures instead of faking a reflection.

Moonset Sunset Sunrise by stiann

The sun and the moon seen side by side as the sun dips just below the North Sea horizon before rising yet again, effectively making the sunset/sunrise into one single 3 hour event. Shot at midnight on the shortest night of the year on the far western Norwegian coast. Only minimal editing was done in an attempt to represent the actual scene. Press M for full resolution.

Recent Past by stiann

What you see here is a traditional Norwegian farm with authentic wooden buildings dating back up to 500 years. As for the tech, this is a 240 degree panorama bracketed for dr, focus and sharpness with the added complication of a flare free scene with the reasonable clean sunstar.
