Transcendence by Pcoskun

Transcendence- The first image I am sharing from a week long trip through Zion and Bryce Canyon National parks. This image was taken in Zion on a day that looked to be nothing but unfortunate weather. A morning that started off with rain soon brought us high up where the rain turned into snow. If autumn in the southwest wasn’t already one of my favorite things, add a hint of winter and my mind almost exploded. A few friends and I wandered down to this wash were a row of beautiful golden trees stood against a canyon wall. The wash now flowing with water and rising rapidly giving us some unique conditions and compositions for this particular spot. As a photographer, I prefer “bad” conditions. Poor weather often produces some of the best photographic conditions, and obviously this day was no exception.

Solitude in the Bisti Badlands by WaynePinkston

This is a small a wash or small valley, ravine in the Bisti Badlands of New Mexico, located in the NW section of N.M. near Farmington. I took this in a attempt to give a representation of what most of the landscape looks like. There are numerous small valley-like washes like this, intermixed with flat areas with numerous small to medium sized Hoodoos. Many of those ridges are steep enough to be tricky to climb over, and so you go around and around to get by them. It is impossible to walk in a straight line. There are no paths and so it is easy to get lost. A GPS device is a must! It beautiful and erie scenery though, and well worth a visit. This was taken with a Canon 6D, and a Nikon 14`24 mm lens at 14 mm, f 2.8, 30 seconds, and ISO 6400.

This is a single exposure.

Thanks for taking the time to look. Hope you enjoy! Your time, faves, and comments are much appreciated!

Volcanic Red by eyeofalens

Volcanic Red

Mt Hood as seen within the Whiteriver wash out area.
I did take a mobile picture of a sign in the parking area back towards Hwy 35 as I was amazed at the volume of volcanic wash they said was taken down during a very unpredicted & rapid warming of snow & ice which accounted for a massive flooding of volcanic rocks & silt down this valley.
If I return to here I think there could be some interesting compositions further up & under the stars.

This is one of the images I captured in Kullaberg over a year ago on what was a very stormy moody evening ..well the wind was blowing & to some extent the water. I wasn’t really properly attired so didn’t stick round for too long once it kicked in & the rain that soon followed . Really looking forward to exploring more up there & hopefully in some stormy weather .

Sunlight On Jericho by eyeofalens

Sunlight on Jericho needs some Black

When I first saw these rock walls/canyon on Saturday, for one reason or another the first thought that popped into my head is that they looked like something out of a biblical setting or painting.
That thought was reinforced again when someone commented more or less saying the same thing on 500px, thinking they looked biblical.
Hence the title I have chose to apply to this image. The Walls of Jericho thought to have been for both defense & flood protection.
Not sure if this is the best of the images captured with the sun passing its light down this passage, but its the only one having captured some of the minimal tidal movements on what was a reasonably calm after noon.

Kullaberg Canyon by eyeofalens

Kullaberg Canyon really needs a black background.

Kullaberg Canyon
Well I finally made the return 100klm journey to Kullaberg
Saturday afternoon, after a 1 year gap. I’m so glad I did & excited about making many more returns in chasing & following up on ideas that evolved while there. I stayed there until about 10.15 until one of my batteries ran dead ( had back ups ) but by that time the clouds had rolled in, the moon was blazing though the clouds behind which pretty much dashed most attempts at capturing some stars & some other ideas I had.
In my haste & excitement to get up there I left my headlamp behind, but as the moon was fully out it pretty much acted as my lantern for my short time in Darkness. Apart from the one time I used my iPhone after nearly losing camera & tripod which was precariously balanced on sone rocks.
I did have my waders on this trip, but opted on this occasion staying dry & high. Will follow up on subsequent trips of getting low & wet ! Cant believe I have not explored more up here, considering its only about an 1hr journey, thats going to change.
I have processed this twice with 2 completely different variations of handling the light . This one the less moodier but brighter of the 2…will post the other at some other point to see which works best ?
