A pair of powerful thunderstorms popped up over the Grand Valley late in the evening and proceeded to put on a show over Fruita and Grand Junction, Colorado, as seen from the Independence Monument Overlook in Colorado National Monument. Though the ground strikes had diminished somewhat by the time the storms moved over Grand Junction, the cloud-to-cloud strikes really lit up the heart of the storm. The canyon is lit by a combination of the moon and the city of Grand Junction.
