To See You Smiling by landESCAPEphotography

“Earth laughs in flowers” – R.W. Emerson

A perfect spring scene on the California coast. The flowers are native Californian Erigeron. I was planning to photograph from the rocks below, but I saw this flower patch on the cliff and knew that was where I wanted to be. This is several exposures blended for focus and time.

Alpine Paradise by landESCAPEphotography

A dusting of snow covers Yosemite Valley during an early-season storm, taken last week. Several familiar landmarks are visible, from different angles. This is a 19-image panorama grid encompassing more than an 180-degree field of view.

In my mind, landscape photography goes hand-in-hand with exploring and enjoying nature — not with checking boxes off a list, or collecting stamps that other people create. I urge you to get outside and experience our amazing planet, without a specific photo or experience in mind, and I can all but promise you will come home with an incredible experience and unique photo.

With Grace by landESCAPEphotography

I never get tired of watching the fog in San Francisco. These low fog events have become extremely rare this year. Hopefully we get another one soon!

A Deep Breath by landESCAPEphotography

I recently took a trip to the Canadian Rockies. It wasn’t really a photography trip — we just wanted to hike, camp, explore, and experience these incredible mountains. We only woke up for a couple sunrises and only stayed out for a couple sunsets. It was a nice change of pace, and it allowed me to reconnect with the reasons I love landscape photography in the first place: because I love being outside. Tung and I hiked to many places in the high country that most people never see, including a few scrambles that required helmets, and many of my best memories have no award-winning photos to show for. But this was one of the better moments of light during the trip, so I did take a couple of handheld panoramas.

Hope you enjoy this one!

A beautiful night of exploring the California coast. This tidal waterfall was exhilarating! Sets of big waves would come, and one would flow out on the waterfall while the next one crashed over the reef. We got soaked, but that’s part of the fun πŸ˜€

The person in the photo is my friend Johnny Wang. It looks more dangerous than it is, don’t worry πŸ™‚

A Sierra Moment by landESCAPEphotography

This photo is dedicated to our friend and landscape photographer extraordinare Jeff Swanson, who had his life taken away from him when he was far too young for it. Jeff was an amazing guy, and I had the pleasure of shooting with him a couple times out in Death Valley. We were planning a Sierra backcountry trip, as it was one of our favorite places, but that opportunity got taken away from us. I hope you will visit his site here to see his beautiful work: jeffitandbethere.com

Funds raised by the sale of Jeff’s prints will be donated in his name to the Melanoma Research Foundation.

This is Olstinden, the same iconic peak you see from a much wider angle in most images from this area.

Here is a panorama from this sunrise.
